There is growing evidence that the whole-of-community approach is the way to go in addressing obesity, chronic diseases and their risk factors. However, there is a growing ethos within public health research, and especially amongst a number of community interventions working in cross-cultural settings, towards an approach of 'customisation' and the development of community interventions that are more responsive and sensitive to cultural and linguistic diversity and needs of some clusters within the population. We examine the implications of the whole-of-community approach in a multicultural society through acculturation lenses.
